Our recent collaboration with Terra Ferma Landscapes Design on a complete backyard overhaul in San Francisco, designed for a family with three growing teens, is a perfect example of how we can transform your exterior spaces into a vibrant, livable retreat!
Outdoor Patios: Your New Living Room
Imagine stepping out into your backyard and finding a space that feels like a natural extension of your indoor living room. For this project, we began by remodeling the garage to create an expansive space that extended to a stunning outdoor patio complete with plush and flexible seating and a built-in fireplace with a lush, green-wall background and options for entertaining. Those options included a wall-mounted television in the garage space for cozy game nights, as well as a full projection setup for a large movie-night gathering!
This space exemplifies versatility - and is perfect for everything from quiet, relaxing evenings by the fire to lively gatherings with friends and family. The key to this transformation lies in the details: weather-resistant furniture that offers both style and comfort, a fireplace that provides warmth and ambiance, and screen-time options that ensured the outdoor entertainment was just as good as the indoor entertainment.
An Ultimate Outdoor Chef’s Kitchen
Cooking outdoors should be more than just a summer pastime; it can be an everyday luxury. For this project, we created an outdoor chef's kitchen equipped with a pizza oven, smoker, commercial-grade appliances, and fully integrated plumbing for sinks, refrigeration, and an ice maker. This setup not only makes outdoor cooking fun and convenient but also adds significant value to the home. Whether you're grilling up a quick dinner or hosting a full-fledged pizza party, this kitchen is designed to handle it all with ease and style.
Entertainment for All Ages
A truly livable outdoor space should offer something for everyone. In this home, Terra Ferma and our team at Heaton and Co decided to include a range of entertainment options to ensure that both adults and children have plenty of ways to enjoy the space. From a movie projection system and outdoor screen for alfresco movie nights to a trampoline for energetic play, the backyard is designed to cater to all interests and ages. These features turn the backyard into a dynamic, multifunctional space that adapts to the needs and desires of the family. We also incorporated a mini sport court that easily transforms into a ping-pong space or a late-night outdoor movie theater, providing many entertainment possibilities.
Creating a Family-Friendly Outdoor Experience
The overarching goal of this project was to create an outdoor experience that fosters family time and extends the living area of the home. Designed for a family with three growing teens who enjoy cooking and entertaining, this backyard transformation integrates various elements—comfortable patios, a gourmet outdoor kitchen, and diverse entertainment options. Perhaps the only option we didn’t include due to space constraints was a pool or hottub- maybe we will work it in for round two!
